Marzano's Classes of Science

Physical Science

This year we will be discovering two areas of science. Our first area will be the world of physics. We will be learning how to observe and measure forces. The foundation of this concept is to recognize a force as a push or a pull. This starts our investigation into Isaac Newton's work in the universal laws of motion and why objects move the way they do. Understanding forces also helps us to understand the idea that energy cannot be created or destroyed. We will be using these forces to do work and then manipulate those forces by way of simple machines to make work easier.

The second area of physical science that we will be studying is the world of chemistry. Because energy and matter are related, thanks to Einstein's famous formula, we will be investigating the idea that matter too cannot be created or destroyed. Our foundation builds off of our research into the basic models of the atom and leads us into investigating the different properties of matter. By the end of the year each student will be able to explain the periodic table of elements as well as identify unknown substances of matter.
